In these unusual and challenging times, we are delighted to have been able to support the hospital and primary care centres local to our Elgin mill, by supplying small batches of scrubs while they waited for NHS supplies.

A dedicated team of our craftspeople applied their sewing skills to produce these essential uniforms while maintaining the recommended social distancing guidelines. The group initially produced prototypes in ultra-fine merino cloth before standard poly-cotton cloth was delivered, and production could start. The first completed batch was sent to a local primary care centre last month.

Johnstons of Elgin's Chief Executive Simon Cotton explained, "We're extremely proud of our team of highly skilled sewers who have been able to produce scrubs using the equipment and facilities we have in our Elgin mill. We have strict measures in place to ensure the health and safety of our staff and communities, including social distancing at all times in the mill and frequent cleaning and disinfection procedures. I am very grateful for the team's spirit, skill and initiative during this time."

We are grateful for the ongoing hard work of our local care providers, as well as healthcare workers throughout the UK, especially during the Covid-19 crisis.
