BY APPOINTMENT TO HIS MAJESTY THE KING
We are incredibly proud to announce that in 2024 we were granted a Royal Warrant of Appointment to His Majesty The King as Manufacturers of Estate Tweeds, Knitwear, and Woven Accessories. This prestigious honour reflects our enduring commitment to craftsmanship, quality, and sustainability.
This accolade follows a remarkable period for Johnstons of Elgin, including receiving the King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade and celebrating one year as a certified B Corporation. We are among the first to receive a Royal Warrant to His Majesty The King, marking a significant milestone in our 227-year history.
Johnstons of Elgin’s Royal Warrant Grantee and Vice Chair, Jenny Urquhart, shared, “This is a particularly special achievement, one of which everybody at Johnstons can be justifiably proud. As passionate and dedicated manufacturers, we are thrilled that what we do, and what we make, is quite literally ‘fit for our King’.”
THE NEW ROYAL ARMS
We previously held a Royal Warrant for Manufacturing Estate Tweed Woollen Fabric to His Majesty when he was HRH The Prince of Wales.
In 2024 we became Royal Warrant Holders once again, now by Appointment to His Majesty The King, as Manufacturers of Estate Tweeds, Knitwear, and Woven Accessories. We look forward to displaying the new Royal Arms on our products and communications.
THE CAMPAIGN FOR WOOL
His Majesty The King continues to champion The Campaign for Wool, advocating for wool’s natural, renewable, and biodegradable properties. The initiative challenges the rise of synthetic fibres across fashion, interiors, and the built environment.
In October 2025, the Campaign for Wool will launch exciting new initiatives for Wool Month, and Johnstons of Elgin is actively preparing to participate alongside other leading wool supporters worldwide.
Choose wool and natural fibres to safeguard the planet for future generations.
A LEGACY OF ROYAL WARRANTS
The history of the Royal Warrant dates back to medieval times, with the Royal Warrant Holders Association established in 1840 to preserve this prestigious tradition. The Association also supports a range of charitable initiatives, including the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST), which helps sustain traditional British craftsmanship and rare artisanal skills.
